Are you the person that always wanted your own fashion business, and dreamed of it your whole life? You know this is what you want to be doing but it still is just a thought and you keep putting it off. Well, you know the old saying. Don’t just sit there — do it! It’s time to get off the couch and start making it happen.
“Action isn’t just the effect of motivation; it’s also the cause of it” says author and businessman Mark Mason. By finally taking action you will find that the idea excites you and will drive you forward. Trust me waiting for the perfect moment is a waste of time. There just isn’t ever a perfect moment.
I was laid off from my job 6 years ago. It certainly wasn’t a perfect moment to start. I was the sole support of my children. One was in college (I paid for it) and the other was still in high school. While I would never recommend starting a business without income from another source in my case this is what I did. Personally I have never regretted the decision. Thank g-d I hit the ground running and made money from day one. The point is I started. Which I even could have done while working.
So what should you do to start? Chose your product. Research the market to make sure you have a competitive advantage or as we say a USP (unique selling proposition). Then put together a business plan. Obviously there are many more things you need to do. But, the key to this is you have begun.
A couple of suggestions:
- Make sure you have enough money to run the business for a couple of years because it usually takes at least that long before you make a profit.
- Get a proof of concept before you dive in.
- Know how you are going to produce your line before you start to sell it.
